The Altelix LE6-4W CAT6 PoE Gigabit 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet Lightning Protector provides ESD protection for sensitive communications equipment from surge and transient events due to lightning or electrical power equipment cycling on or off. The unit is compatible with all CAT5, CAT5e and CAT6 Gigabit Ethernet equipment including systems using 802.3af and 802.11at Power over Ethernet. PoE DC power can be fed up the data pairs 1/2, 3/6 or data pairs 4/5, 7/8 or all four pairs at once for high power PoE. The four data pairs and PoE DC power feeds are equally protected. For maximum protection one LE6-4W should be placed on each end of a long cable run.
The LE6-4W architecture utilizes the very high surge survivability of ceramic Gas Discharge Tubes. A Gas Discharge Tube can survive surge events 100x higher than a semiconductor device and possess ultra-low parasitic capacitance. The units utilize four 3-element or differential Gas Tubes. A differential Gas Tube offers superior common and differential mode protection and faster response than a 2-element Gas Tube. The unit also features shielded RJ-45 connectors and an outdoor rated weatherproof enclosure. A large terminal provides a low impedance path to earth ground.
