Comtrend PG-9172AC G.hn Powerline Adapter with AC1200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi
The Comtrend PG-9172AC extends network connectivity through existing electrical wiring and provides a dual-band Wi-Fi access point at the destination. It combines G.hn powerline technology with AC1200 wireless and one Gigabit Ethernet port for connecting wired and wireless devices in rooms with limited network coverage.
Connect a compatible G.hn adapter to your router, then install the PG-9172AC near the area where you need connectivity. This approach uses electrical wiring for the network link between adapters instead of relying solely on a repeated wireless signal.
Required: At least two compatible G.hn powerline adapters are needed to establish a powerline connection. The companion adapter is sold separately unless explicitly included in a bundle.

G.hn Powerline Connectivity
The PG-9172AC carries network traffic over suitable existing electrical wiring using G.hn technology. Comtrend documents the PG-9172 as a recommended companion adapter at the router end of the connection.
Performance depends on the electrical installation, noise, connected appliances, and adapter placement. Connect powerline equipment directly to wall outlets as instructed by Comtrend; power strips and surge protectors can significantly reduce performance.
Concurrent Dual-Band Wi-Fi
Provide wireless connectivity on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz at the same time. The 2.4 GHz radio supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n, while the 5 GHz radio supports IEEE 802.11a/n/ac. Compatible clients connect at rates supported by their own radios and operating conditions.
Gigabit Ethernet
The single RJ45 port supports 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet with automatic speed and duplex negotiation and MDI/MDIX support. Use it to connect a nearby computer, television, game console, or other Ethernet-equipped device.
Management and Security
Configure the adapter through its web interface. Documented features include TR-069 management, 802.1Q VLAN support, multicast snooping, and QoS. G.hn security supports 128-bit AES encryption; complete the secure pairing procedure during installation.
Performance Expectations
The 1200 Mbps powerline rating is a PHY link rate. AC1200 is a combined wireless speed class across two bands, not a 1200 Mbps connection for a single client. Actual application throughput will be lower and depends on the complete network path.

Compatible Products
A powerline connection requires at least two compatible G.hn powerline adapters on an electrical installation that permits communication between them. One adapter connects to the router or gateway by Ethernet, and the PG-9172AC provides connectivity at the destination.
- Comtrend PG-9172 1200 Mbps G.hn Powerline Ethernet Adapter – Explicitly recommended in Comtrend's PG-9172AC installation guide as the primary adapter connected to the router. Pair it with the PG-9172AC to provide remote Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity.
Important: Select a documented compatible G.hn powerline adapter. HomePlug AV or AV2 equipment should not be selected as the companion adapter simply because it uses the same electrical outlets or advertises a similar speed.
Installation limitations: Electrical wiring, circuit layout, filtering, and interference can affect connection quality. Avoid power strips and surge protectors. Compatibility with a particular outlet location cannot be guaranteed from the adapter specifications alone.
PoE limitation: The PG-9172AC is not documented as a PoE injector or a PoE-powered device. A compatible PoE camera or access point requires its own appropriate power source.
