Comtrend WAP-EN300C N300 2.4 GHz Ceiling-Mount Wireless Access Point
The Comtrend WAP-EN300C is an indoor wireless access point for adding 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi coverage to an existing home or business network. It supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless clients with an advertised maximum PHY rate of 300 Mbps and connects to the wired network through one Gigabit Ethernet port.
A radio rated up to 400 mW and two internal 3 dBi PIFA antennas provide flexible coverage options for offices, retail interiors and residential spaces. Ceiling and suspended-ceiling mounting accessories support placement above the occupied area.
Guest network controls, VLAN support, per-SSID bandwidth throttling and RADIUS authentication help administrators configure access for different users. TR-069 and local management interfaces provide options for deployment and ongoing administration.
Key Features
- Single-band 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity.
- N300 wireless PHY rate up to 300 Mbps.
- One 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet port.
- IEEE 802.3af PoE input; compatible with an IEEE 802.3at power source.
- Alternative 12 V DC, 1 A power input.
- Maximum advertised radio output of 26 dBm, approximately 400 mW.
- Two internal PIFA antennas rated at 3 dBi each.
- Up to 16 SSIDs and up to 50 concurrent clients.
- Guest network controls and wireless Layer 2 isolation.
- IEEE 802.1Q VLAN support and per-SSID bandwidth throttling.
- Built-in or external RADIUS server support.
- TR-069 remote management and cluster configuration support.
- Ceiling bracket and drop-ceiling mounting kit in the original package.
Wireless Performance
The WAP-EN300C operates on the 2.4 GHz band and supports 802.11b/g/n clients. Automatic channel selection and adjustable transmit power help administrators configure coverage for the installation environment.
The advertised 300 Mbps figure is a maximum wireless PHY rate. Actual data throughput depends on client capabilities, channel width, interference, signal conditions and network load. The Gigabit Ethernet connection does not increase the wireless radio's maximum PHY rate.
Connectivity and Power
The single RJ45 port provides the wired network connection and accepts IEEE 802.3af PoE power. An IEEE 802.3at PoE source can also supply the access point. Alternatively, use the specified 12 V DC, 1 A power adapter.
The Ethernet port is a PoE input, not a power output for another device. The access point connects to an existing router or network; it does not replace an internet modem.
Guest Networks and Access Control
Configure up to 16 SSIDs, apply guest network restrictions and use VLAN tagging to support separate network segments. Wireless Layer 2 isolation, MAC filtering and IEEE 802.1X authentication provide additional access-control options.
Built-in and external RADIUS support enables authentication configurations suited to managed networks. VLAN-based separation also requires the appropriate upstream switch and router configuration.
Network Management
TR-069 supports remote configuration, firmware administration, backup and restoration. Local management options include HTTP/HTTPS, SNMP and command-line access.
Comtrend documents an AP controller arrangement in which one access point manages up to five additional access points. Cluster configuration and Smart Handover features require compatible firmware and an appropriately configured deployment.
Indoor Ceiling Installation
The circular enclosure is designed for indoor ceiling installation. The original package includes a ceiling bracket and drop-ceiling mounting kit.
Ideal Applications
- Indoor 2.4 GHz coverage for small offices and retail spaces.
- Guest Wi-Fi alongside an existing business network.
- Residential coverage expansion using wired Ethernet backhaul.
- Ceiling installations powered by a compatible PoE switch.
- Small managed deployments using supported Comtrend cluster functions.
Compatible Products
For power and wired connectivity, use an IEEE 802.3af-compliant PoE source or a backward-compatible IEEE 802.3at source. The following switches provide Gigabit Ethernet and the required standards-based PoE support.
- Comtrend GS-7508 8-Port Gigabit PoE+ Switch – supports IEEE 802.3af/at, up to 30 W per port and a 130 W total PoE budget. Compatible for supplying power and Ethernet connectivity to the WAP-EN300C.
- Comtrend GS-7518 18-Port Gigabit Switch with 16 PoE+ Ports – ports 1–16 support IEEE 802.3af/at PoE, with up to 30 W per port and a 280 W total PoE budget.
Wireless clients must support 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n operation and the configured authentication method. Devices supporting only 5 GHz cannot connect to this access point.
Important: These switch recommendations establish power and Ethernet compatibility. They do not establish Comtrend cluster-controller integration or configurable VLAN support. Keep all connected devices within the switch's total PoE budget. Do not substitute a passive PoE injector based only on its voltage or connector.
